Simplifying the evidencing process for learning outcomes

SEPLO stands for ‘Simplifying the evidencing process for learning outcomes’. The aim of this project is to develop innovative tools and resources to support VET colleges, work placement hosting organisations and learners to integrate learning outcomes into a work based mobility placement.

To do this, we will support stakeholders to engage with the ECVET framework. ECVET is the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training. It is a technical framework that can be used to identify learning outcomes and record participants progress towards or achievement of these outcomes during their placement. Outcomes can be related to technical components of a vocational course or soft skills development.

The project will be delivered over 2 years, by 5 European partners who have range of experiences using the ECVET framework to support European mobility activity.

Together we have recognized the need to develop tools that will facilitate a straightforward and accessible approach to using ECVET, which will be specifically aimed at lower level vocational qualifications (Up to EQF Level 3). We acknowledge that there are perceived barriers to using the ECVET framework due to seemingly complicated language and processes and a lack of clarity as to how the evidence gathered will be received by national accrediting bodies. We have seen that in some national contexts, it is not always clear how ECVET works and what it can offer.

We hope that by developing tools that support a stronger, more integrated use of the ECVET framework within a mobility activity, we can contribute to an improved quality of pan-European work based learning placements, with clearer outcomes for learners, thus encouraging more VET colleges to engage in high quality mobility projects. This, in turn, will lead to more learners acquiring hands-on experience and enriched skills through working abroad in new cultural and professional contexts.

This project is funded by the Erasmus + programme.
